About the role
Utilize Be The LIGHT, a framework developed by KKH, to provide support to children / youths who have recently experienced grief, crisis or a potentially traumatizing incident.
Intervention requires a maximum of 3 sessions per youth, across a period of 1 month.
Commitment
● Minimum 1-year volunteering commitment to Impart (excl. training duration)
● Compulsory in-person training for both Impart's full volunteer training and for additional BTL training.
During Engagement, minimally 2h/week
● Daily brief digital check-ins with child or youth
● Weekly 1 hour sessions with child or youth
● Total 1 hour of session plans and updates per week
● Compulsory monthly group supervision on how to best support your youth(s) (one night of the month, 8pm-10pm)
Responsibilities
● Build rapport and create an emotionally safe environment for children / youths who have recently experienced grief, crisis, or trauma.
● Conduct age-appropriate assessments to screen for signs of post-traumatic stress.
● Teach age-appropriate coping skills to help the youth process the distressing event.
● Share coping strategies with the youth’s caregiver / trusted adult to reinforce support beyond Impart’s sessions.
● Monitor and document changes in post-traumatic stress symptoms over the course of the intervention.
● Evaluate longer-term resource needs (e.g., therapy, community programs) and facilitate referrals.
Requirements
● 21 years old and above
● $200 deposit for 1-year commitment
Preferred:
● Experience working with children and youths
● Psychology / Social Work / Criminology / Counselling background or other related fields
